Travels with an infant: we complete the first aid kit
Going on a trip with a small child, you cannot forget to complete the first aid kit. It should include not only antipyretic and painkillers, but also means, to help us prevent motion sickness. A properly prepared first aid kit will help us spend our holidays safely, whether, what destination we choose.
Not every parent remembers about taking a first aid kit with them on a trip. We usually rely on the first aid kit in the car, and it only has the basic equipment and does not contain any medications important for the baby.
How to complete a first aid kit?
By starting to complete the travel first aid kit, one general rule is worth knowing. While plasters and bandages will not need to be transported at the right temperature, it is safest to pack all kinds of drugs in a special thermal insulation bag. Such a bag can be additionally placed in a cardboard box, protecting it from damage.
Completing medications, always check in advance, whether they are not past their due date. Moreover, we must be aware of this, what is the purpose of individual specifics and when will we be able to use them. Therefore, it is worth having a leaflet with each drug along with the dosage method of the preparation.
The first aid kit must contain painkillers and antipyretics. These can be agents in various forms - so we can take not only suppositories, but also a syrup. Of course, all medications should be safe for our child - do not experiment with new medications while traveling. The first aid kit must therefore contain only the funds, which have already been used by us.
Prevention of travel diarrhea
In addition to painkillers or antipyretics, it is also worth having funds in the first aid kit in the event of traveler's diarrhea. Such diarrhea can appear in both adults, and the children. When it happens to us or our child, we should not panic. It is best to stock up on fluids for oral rehydration - such agents are ideal for fighting the symptoms of diarrhea. They are available in pharmacies both in liquid form, and powdered (the contents of the sachet are dissolved in water).
Preparations for oral rehydration can also be used at the time, when we see, that the baby feels overheated. Such measures replenish the level of electrolytes and restore the proper level of hydration in the body. You can also give them to your little one in the evening, after a hot day.
Medications for sore throat and allergic reactions
Preparations for sore throat are another must-have item in the travel kit. These can be medicines in the form of sprays or ordinary lozenges. It is also a good idea to put special spatulas in the first aid kit, so that we can freely look into the toddler's throat if necessary
and assess its condition.
Preparations for allergies are also important, especially if our little one is allergic. Then the first aid kit must contain appropriate antihistamines with leaflets. If your baby has had an anaphylactic reaction in the past, then it is also worth taking an adrenaline rush. These types of preparations are available in the form of pre-filled syringes - they generally do not need to be stored in a refrigerator, so you can easily take them to the first aid kit.
What about motion sickness?
Traveling by car for some children, by train or plane is associated with motion sickness. Then nausea and vomiting appear, which significantly worsen the comfort of travel. These symptoms can often be noticed during your baby's first journeys, and also then, when the traffic is intense (for example, driving a car off the hook).
If your toddler suffers from motion sickness, we should always try to choose the less winding road. You can take breaks more often during the trip - walks will do the little one good and he will be in a better mood. The face-facing position reduces the risk of motion sickness. However, you can only adjust the seat in this way for a slightly older baby. Do not give your child toys or books while traveling.
If the symptoms of motion sickness are extremely severe, then the baby can be prophylactically administered suppositories containing hyoscine. In children over two years of age, on the other hand, preparations preventing the occurrence of symptoms of motion sickness may be used (however, they should be taken about half an hour before the start of the journey).
